The former Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has officially signaled his interest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race by announcing the formation of an exploratory committee to assess the viability of his potential bid.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dr. Bryan Acheampong disclosed that the decision follows growing encouragement from party faithful, grassroots supporters, and extensive consultations with family and well-wishers.
“I have decided to form an exploratory committee. This committee will engage key stakeholders, listen to the voices of our grassroots and constituents, and test the alignment between my vision and the aspirations of our party and the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
The exploratory committee is expected to submit its findings within four weeks, after which a formal announcement on his candidature is anticipated.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a long-serving party member and experienced politician, recounted his extensive service to the NPP — from grassroots mobilization and party staffing to serving as a four-term MP, Minister of State, Cabinet Minister, and major party financier.
He stressed the need for unity, discipline, and a renewed focus on job creation, food security, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and good governance.
“To our foot soldiers and all NPP faithful, I firmly believe in the Party’s capacity to overcome its challenges and once again lead Ghana towards a brighter future,” he stated, calling for steadfastness and decorum within the party as it navigates this crucial period.
The announcement positions Dr. Bryan Acheampong among the growing list of potential contenders eyeing the NPP’s presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections.
His entry into the race would add to what political analysts predict will be a competitive internal contest as the ruling party seeks a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
