Edward Ennin, a former member of parliament for Obuasi East and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has questioned attempts to reintegrate Alan Kyerematen.
The former commerce minister revealed his intention to run as an independent in the 2024 elections after leaving the party.
Few days ago, the former MP accused certain party members of irritating Alan and pressuring him to leave the party in an interview with Neat FM.
Ennin said that there could have been a deliberate attempt to discredit Alan inside the NPP in the hope that his departure wouldn’t have any lasting effects.
“And the things that they have done to Alan, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and all of them, they knew what they were doing and I think it was a planned effort to frustrate the man just to leave the party, thinking that he was nobody and his absence wouldn’t affect anything.
“But now they have realized that his absence won’t help them but rather affects them… it is now a case of taking a certain decision without thinking about it, and now you want to use a different approach to reverse it,” he said.
Ennin voiced worry that the NPP’s plan would fail, creating a circumstance that might be divisive during elections.
“If they don’t take care, the next election will be one party versus an independent candidate who will go to a second round.”
After voting in the election of the super delegates, Alan Kyerematen formally left the party. In the election results, Kyerematen, a significant NPP politician, was positioned behind Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu.
