The Japan Branch of New Patriotic Party, NPP, has touted leadership qualities demonstrated by President of Ghana Akufo-Addo and His Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in the fight against COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana.
The Minister of Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu announced Wednesday, April 1, 2020, that, 34 new cases have been recorded which have increased the national figures from 161 as of Tuesday, March 31, 2020, to 195.
The Greater Accra Region has 174 of these cases, the Northern Region has 10, the Ashanti Region has nine, the Upper West Region has one and the Eastern Region also has one known case of the virus.
“Currently, there is no leader on the African continent that has taken a depth measures against this virus then you have.”
Out of the total cases recorded, five have died, 49 discharged but being managed home, 138 responding to treatment at various hospitals.
President of Ghana Akufo-Addo on Friday night of March 27, 2020, announced partial lockdown of the Nation’s Capital-Accra and Parts of Greater Kumasi as enhanced measure to prevent increasing community spread having closed down all Borders -Land, sea and Air space. Other internal measures including the establishment of COVID-19 Fund has been Established which has started recording significant contributions by corporate Ghana.
This according to a statement issued by the NPP Japan branch and signed by the Acting communication Director, Kwaku Adu, is a trait of “valiant leadership”.
“The entire membership of the NPP-Japan branch applauds the valiant leadership of Nana Addo and Bawumia in the careful manner in which they are dealing with the happenings in the country as far as the deadly disease COVID-19 is a concern”
The statement added “We are more fascinated with the announcement of the establishment of the COVID-19 fund where the president himself and the vice president have donated their three-month salary to the fund as seed money. This is a demonstration of selfless leaders who have the country’s well-being at heart.
“Nana Addo has also demonstrated to the whole world that he is a unique leader who would not copy blindly but thinks carefully before implementing any policy as he said in his update speech on the night of 27th March 2020”.
“We were excited to hear that after a careful consideration of the current situation of the COVID-19, the president has imposed under the powers granted to him under the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012), restrictions on the movement of persons in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA, which includes Awutu Senya East), and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and contiguous districts, for two (2) weeks, subject to review taking effect from Monday, 30th March 2020.”
