Patrick Yaw Boamah, a member of parliament representing Okaikwei Central, has voiced concern about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) departure from the party’s basic principles.
He claims that some members of the political party have grown overly materialistic, which is bad for the party.
He saw the New Patriotic Party as a group that welcomed everyone into its embrace rather than as a show-off party before he joined.
He mentioned former political party leaders who are not millionaires but have had the chance to lead the party and have the backing of the party members, such as Adu Boahen, Kufour, Akufo-Addo, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We were following selfless people. Today, people who have money have the following in the party. Yes someone can be rich, some can be poor. Prof Adu Boahen was a University Professor, when President Kufour was becoming a President he wasn’t a millionaire, President Akufo-Addo wasn’t a millionaire.
Dr. Bawumia, who was our candidate, was not a millionaire but if the party elects you, we all have a call to duty to support with our cash and strength because we believe that the person is going to work in tandem with the values and principles of the party based on our philosophy. There’s been a shift in the way we were loyal and committed to the true values of the political party. People have become too materialistic. People are fighting for more money but that is not what we used to know about the NPP,” he told Asaasepa Radio in an interview.
