The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Lower West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Charles Acheampong on Sunday ignored a peace campaign organized by the Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua in Asamankese.
Mr. Charles Acheampong was spotted Sunday morning in the street of Asamankese in a Health walk with some supporters but failed to honor an official invitation by the Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Church in Asamankese Town Hall meeting for all stakeholders in Election which is a nationwide activity by the Church.
According to organizers, no representative attended the program for the NPP and their Candidate in the Lower West Akyem Constituency but they said the candidate agreed to participate.
Officials from the Electoral Commission in the Area also failed to participate in the program to brief the electorate on their preparation.
Present at the Town Hall meeting were officials from NCCE, Security Services, Traditional leaders, Parliamentary candidate for Ghana Union Movement and National Democratic Congress in the Lower West Akyem Constituency.
In a related development, Parliamentary candidate for the NDC and NPP in Upper West Akyem Constituency of the Eastern Region also ignored such Peace and Sensitization program by the Justice and Peace in the Catholic Church in Adeiso but their representatives were present.
Officials from the Electoral Commission in the Area also failed to participate in the program to brief the electorate on their preparation.
The main objective of this initiative is to re-echo the need for active community participation in building robust community interventions that promote development while addressing the misconception, which is gradually gaining grounds, that community development is solely the responsibility of the MP.
Over the years, the Catholic Church has been reckoned as a beacon of Ghana’s socio-economic development agenda and has considerable constituents who could be mobilized for community dialogues in the form of Town Hall Meetings to engender participation in governance with its numerous benefits to community development.
