The New Patriotic Party (NPP) met on Wednesday to try to resolve the impasse between presidential hopefuls Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh in order to have five candidates for the November 4 presidential primary.
The two candidates got nine votes a piece in the first round of voting, prompting the party to call a run-off election for Saturday, September 2.
The party, on the other hand, is attempting to avoid the run-off and has requested the two candidates to stand aside for each other.
So far, no candidate has decided to resign.
On Wednesday, the NPP National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council met to discuss the situation.
In an interview with the media following a meeting with the aspirants, NPP Chairman Stephen Ntim expressed confidence that they would make a decision in the best interests of the party.
“Understanding will prevail eventually for the party to move on. For the two aspirants with a tie, it is just a matter of prevailing on them if one could give in to the other, but it looks like they are all prepared to go in with the full haul, so we are getting ready to meet tomorrow.
“NEC will meet followed by National Council, we are trying to find a solution or finality to the dialogue that we are having,” he stated.
