Incumbent Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim Constituency of the Eastern Region, Charles Acheampong has won the New Patriotic Party’s Primary to lead the Party for December general elections.
This breaks one term record for male Candidate for the NPP in the Constituency since the year 2000.
From 2009 to January 2017, the only female who was given second term in Parliament was Honourable Gifty Klenam, as compare to 1993 to 2001 which were also one term for the NDC’s Candidate.
Fourth and third attempt by Deputy Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited (Operations) Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye and Mr. Kwadwo Odame Antwi,Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), failed again as Honourable Charles Acheampong doubled his vote for over 100% in 2024.
At the end of polls, Mr. Acheampong polled 437 Votes, Mr. Kwabena Sintim Aboagye had 115 Votes, Mr. Kwadwo Odame Antwi was giving 120 Votes, Dr. Adamu Abdulai had 33 Votes and the only female in the race, Grace Akosua Amoabeng had only one vote.
In April 25, 2020 Primaries, Candidates for the Constituency Primaries were former MP who served from 2008 to 2016, Gifty Klenam, Former District Chief Executive for the area who is currently serving as Deputy Director in charge of operations at STC, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, the CEO of Ghana Tourism Development Authority, Kwadwo Odame Antwi, a businessman, Kwabena Asamoah and Charles Acheampong who won the internal election and the Parliamentary seat.
In the 2020 Election, the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Lower West Akim, Charles Acheampong, won the seat for the party and polled 27, 527, to beat his main contender from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Adu-Sei, who garnered 19,744 votes.

Charles Acheampong was born on Saturday, 9th May, 1981. He holds Masters (Wireless Communications) – 2012 and has worked with the National Communications Authority before.
At Parliament, he serves in the Communications Committee and Committee on Gender and Children.
