The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is targeting to garner at least seventy thousand (70,000) valid votes cast out of the total of seventy-seven thousand (77,000) registered voters in the Nkawkaw Constituency of the Eastern Region in the upcoming December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
“Since you have treated the people of Kwahu fairly and with respect, out of the total registered voting population of seventy-seven thousand (77,000) in the Nkawkaw Constituency, the Constituency will give the NPP seventy thousand (70,000),” the Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior, Bryan Acheampong, stated when he addressed a crowd of teeming NPP supporters at the Nkawkaw Methodist Park as part of two -day Campaign tour of President Akufo Addo.
NPP to Snatch Afram Plains South Seat
Bryan Acheampong also revealed that the NPP is on course to snatching the Afram Plains South Constituency seat from the largest opposition party – National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, William Hor, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the 2020 elections is firmly on the ground and he is set to annex the seat from the NDC after the party failed to do the same in the last six (6) elections under the 1992 Fourth Republican Constitution.
“If you take a critical look at the work Willie Hor, and his team of regional and constituency executives are doing, everything points to the fact that the Afram Plains South Constituency will turn to the side of the NPP. Let us all intensify our efforts at Afram Plains South Constituency so we can take the seat from the NDC,” Bryan Acheampong stated.
In the 2016 elections, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate Eric Osei Owusu retained the seat for the party with 11,186 votes representing 53.57%. This, the NDC believe was a result of apathy due to the dramatic disqualification of then-incumbent MP Joseph Appiah Boateng.
Joseph Appiah Boateng, known as JAB1, was forced to step down few days to the 2016 election over allegations of fraud having served as MP between 2012 and 2016.
Joseph Appiah Boateng having been cleared of any wrongdoing by the court, returned to win the Parliamentary primaries of the party in 2019 to become the Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 polls.
