The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) will meet today to consider potential running mates for their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The main goal of the conference is to identify potential candidates that the party thinks can work well with Dr. Bawumia and help win the 2024 election.
Names like Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (majority leader), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (education minister), and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (energy minister) are reportedly being seriously evaluated, according to Citi News sources.
It is anticipated that the NEC will discuss these candidates in detail and formally submit its recommendation for approval to the National Council.
This procedure complies with the NPP constitution, which mandates that if the President is not a candidate, a running partner must be chosen 12 months before to a significant election.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia will lead today’s important meetings in place of President Akufo-Addo, who is currently abroad.
