On September 4, 2025 – During Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show, host Kwamina Sam Binny interviewed Alhaji Osman Massawudu, the Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), about the outcome of the Akwatia by-election and why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the seat.
Mr. Massawudu stated that Akwatia is not necessarily a stronghold of either the NPP or the NDC, emphasizing that elections are always a game of winning or losing. He encouraged party supporters to stay positive despite the defeat.
“If you are a politician, you must be ready for anything. Losing doesn’t mean it ends there. As NPP chairman, this loss cannot pull us down.
We are not entirely surprised by the outcome, but we know a lot happened. Though God didn’t give us the win, we will do our homework well and come back stronger,” he said.
When asked about the security measures during the by-election, Hon. Massawudu expressed disappointment with the performance of the police.
“All of us were singing praises for the IGP, but we didn’t see quality work on the ground. It is not a matter of quantity but of quality, and the police performed poorly.
They appeared compromised by the NDC government, as they ignored some serious issues that arose during voting,” he alleged.
He cautioned that such incidents cannot be allowed to happen during the 2028 general elections and called for urgent reforms to ensure fairness and credibility in future polls.
