The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed strong confidence in securing victory in 12 controversial parliamentary seats during the December 7 2024 general elections.
These constituencies includes; Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Dome Kwabenya, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano South West, Akwatia, Suhum, Fanteakwa North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Techiman South.
This announcement was made during a press conference held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
The briefing, led by the NPP’s Electoral and Legal Affairs Committee, addressed delays and controversies surrounding the collation and declaration of parliamentary results in certain constituencies.
Former NPP National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, speaking at the event, urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to expedite the collation process to reflect the democratic will of electorates.
He emphasized the critical role of the EC in resolving uncertainties and maintaining national stability.
“We urge the National Election Security Taskforce to ensure adequate security during the collation process to facilitate a peaceful and orderly environment. Additionally, we call on the NDC leadership to control their supporters to prevent further disruptions”, Mac Manu stated.
The NPP attributed their confidence in these constituencies to data from polling station results, specifically the pink sheets, which serve as official records of the votes cast on that day.
“Our conclusions are based on verifiable data from the pink sheets, which clearly show our parliamentary candidates were victorious in these constituencies” he added.
Mr. Mac Manu called on all stakeholders, including the EC, political parties, and security agencies, to prioritize democracy and national peace by taking swift action to respect the will of voters.
“In the interest of our democracy and the peace of the nation, we urge the EC to act promptly to reflect the voters’ decisions in the December elections,” the NPP declared.
The party also criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly interfering in the collation process.
According to the NPP, actions by some NDC supporters have contributed to the delays in finalizing results in the affected constituencies.
“We urge the NDC leadership to exhibit responsible leadership by restraining their supporters. This is a crucial time for our democracy, and no actions should undermine the electoral process,” Mac Manu stressed.
The NPP reaffirmed its commitment to upholding democratic principles and called on all parties to collaborate to ensure the election results are finalized peacefully and transparently.
