Akwamuman,
Today yet again, I find myself addressing you as citizens and friends, confident in your investment in deciding where we go from here.
I acknowledge today’s affirmation by the Supreme Court as a confirmation of all that is right within our traditional and judicial systems – imperfect as they are.
Nana Afrakoma, my Elders and I, are grateful to the great traditional minds represented by the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs; and the judicial minds represented by the apex court of Ghana who deliberated long and hard to get us here.
They have provided us plenty to ponder over and to address in order that we can minimise the possibility of future protracted litigation, and focus on the business of creating a state in which we can take immense pride.
More importantly, today’s affirmation is an opportunity to establish a blueprint for the future traditional administration of this our dear homeland.
My compatriots, while we all agree that there is great advantage to be gained in constructive dialogue, and to some extent a diversity of opinions, there is no value in conflict. At some point we must turn weapons into tools for innovation. That time is now.
Our very survival as a people depends on it. The survival of the next generation depends on it; and I daresay that survival is non-negotiable.
Instead of waging divisive battles that may drain our resources and lead nowhere, I call on all of us to begin the process towards mending bridges. We have observed how great Kingdoms have been established through the manifestation of the loyalty of their citizens as well as through careful examination of the many positive outcomes to be derived from peaceful co-existence.
We have sadly, also witnessed the devastating effects of conflict on nations, economies, and individuals.
Therefore, when you are incited to accept, or sow the seeds of suspicion and distrust, I urge you to carefully examine and challenge the motive that informs that action and instead, resolve to remain a visible player in our common-purpose driven agenda.
I have always affirmed my commitment to you as your Omanhene, but today, I need you in turn to affirm your commitment to an Akwamu where our children feel safe in their environment and in the assurance of a good future.
It is your actions that will make this possible.
I take this opportunity to invite all citizens of Akwamu, and friends of Akwamu to this year’s KITAWONSA AKWASIDAE which is dubbed “LET’S UNITE AND BUILD AKWAMUMAN” this weekend at Akwamufie.
More than ever, I thank you for staying the course. Together, let us chart the path towards a prosperous and peaceful Akwamu! God continue to bless you all.
