Section of the public has taken a swipe at the Council of State for offering a 20% slash on their allowances as a way of helping to cushion the economy in this trying moment.
In a random interview, Ghanaians are, however, calling on members of the Council of State to rather offer good guidance and advice to the President and his Economic Management team.
The Council of State led by its Chairman, Nana Otuo Siriboe in a meeting with President Akufo-Addo revealed the decision to slash their allowances after an unconfirmed report that the Presidency has cut down expenses due to the global economic crises.
But some residents of Koforidua are not satisfied with the decision of the Council of State as they were of the view members have failed on their mandate of offering constructive guidance to the President, thereby leading the state of the economy the country finds itself.
Others also called for the dissolution of the Council of State portfolio from our governance system as they have not contributed meaningfully to the governance of successive governments.
“I think that portfolio of Council of State should be scrapped because we pay them for no work done. Aside from the many ministers and appointees, what else can the members of the Council of State do considering our political history” a resident complained?
Meanwhile, the Finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta is expected to tell the Ghanaian government’s plans in reviving the economy on Thursday, March 24.
