Confederation of African Football (CAF), has officially announced a change in the dates for the 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be held by Morocco.
The continental football governing body confirmed that the tournament, originally scheduled to take place from 17 March to 3 April 2026, will now be held from 25 July to 16 August 2026.
The decision follows consultations between CAF, FIFA and other key stakeholders involved in the organisation of the competition.
According to CAF, the adjustment was made to ensure the smooth organisation and overall success of the prestigious women’s football tournament after certain unforeseen circumstances affected the initial schedule.
The hosting rights for the 2026 edition were awarded to Morocco in October 2024, continuing the North African country’s growing role in staging major continental football events. Morocco has invested heavily in football infrastructure and recently hosted several international competitions, further strengthening its reputation as a reliable host nation.
Despite the change in schedule, CAF assured that preparations for the tournament are progressing steadily, with all stakeholders working closely to deliver a successful and memorable edition of the championship.
The WAFCON remains Africa’s premier women’s national team competition and serves as a major platform for showcasing the rapid development of women’s football across the continent. The 2026 tournament is expected to bring together the best teams in Africa as they compete for continental glory in Morocco next summer.
Below are the WAFCON Group pairings:
Group A: Morocco – Algeria – Senegal – Kenya
Group B: South Africa – Ivory Coast – Burkina Faso – Tanzania
Group C: Nigeria – Zambia – Egypt – Malawi
