The Queen Mother of Okorase Domeabra, Nana Oye Asiwaa Apem 1, has expressed her disappointment in the MCE of the constituency and the government in general for their refusal to reconstruct the River Densu Bridge.
The bridge that was constructed 200 years ago has not had any touch of renovation or reconstruction for its residents to be able to cross the bridge.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee, on Dadi FM, she revealed that the state of the bridge is so appalling that people have suffered losses because of that.
“Some people have lost lives, pregnant women can’t cross and some students have not been able to go to school for almost a month due to the condition of the Bridge”, she said.
She mentioned that recently, a farmer, known as Agya Adu lost his life just after crossing the Densu Bridge.
According to her what saddens her is that the MCE together with her officials seem unbothered about the condition of the Bridge, even after she has sent several letters to the officials for their attention and support and organized a demonstration which has all fallen on deaf ears.
“I have sent several letters asking for their attention because the bridge has not been renovated for 200 years, no one has decided to help the residents who stood on their toes to vote them into power, they come up with different excuses all the time. When we demonstrated the issue, they said that we should ask the demonstration for support”, she added.
Speaking on the same issue, the Assembly member of the constituency, Hon. Charles Adu Asinor asserted that the MCE and the government officials have made budgets for the Okurase community.
He promised that since the bridge is a matter of concern, the authorities are putting things in order to begin construction as soon as possible.
“We’ve made budgets to resolve the issues and problems in Okorase, I can’t promise yet the date and time the reconstruction or renovation will begin but I can assure it will be soon”, he assured.
The Queen-mother threatened that if the Assembly Member, MCE, and some of the delegates do not find solutions to the problem, the people will take drastic measures.
She went to say that, the bridge is not the only problem in the community, there are poor roads and no gutters in the community which causes flooding, thus the government and its officials should make a move because the residents deserve better.
