The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori has invited the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to his 20th anniversary slated for 14th December 2019 and lifted the ban on them from all official functions organized under the auspices of the Ofori Panin Stool.
This follows an official apology to the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council on behalf of its Ashanti Regional Secretary by A high-powered delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has arrived in Kyebi in the Eastern Region
During a demonstration by the Coalition for National Sovereignty in Kumasi, Kwame Zu alleged that if it had not been the intervention of former President John Mahama, the people of Kyebi and the Okyenhene would still be “drinking water with animals.”
The statement, widely condemned, led to a huge demonstration by the chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa.
The Ashanti Regional branch of the NDC consequently issued a written apology but it was rejected by the Okyeman Council.
It is believed that Mr. Kwame Zu was fined 98 sheep and 48 schnapps bottles but upon the intervention of the NDC delegation, the sheep were reduced to 38.
Representatives of the NDC led by its national chairman Ofosu Ampofo, Kwame Zu and other executives from the Ashanti and Eastern Regional branches.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo later told the media that “Today, the Okyenhene has indicated that he has no problem with the NDC. The NDC is also saying that we have no problem with the Okyenhene. We want bygones to be bygones.”
