The Silver jubilee celebration of the the ascendency of Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin as the paramount chief of the the Akyem Abuakwa traditional council has been launched at Kyebi on Monday.
The colourful event brought together traditional leaders, politicians, religious leaders, journalists, well wishers as well as residents who were clothed in beautiful African prints.
Addressing the media and guests, Okyeman Twafohene, Okatakyie Boakye Danquah, eulogised the Okyenhene for his achievements over the past 25 years of his reign in ensuring the total development of Okyeman.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, Osagyefo took over at the time when Okyeman and the Easter region were confronted with many developmental challenges. Okyeman wore the uneviable tag as the poorest performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) despite significant public Investment. This had roots in growing social crises truancy, increase in school dropout rate, the surge of teenage pregnancy and the spread of HIV”.
However, he indicated that Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin launched a successful advocacy for increased funding and rekindled the interest and involvement of parents in their children’s eduation.
According to him, the result of that initiative has reduced school dropout rate, reduced cases of teenage pregnancy and also led reduction of HIV infections.
Okatakyie Boakye Danquah revealed Okyeman currently has ten Model Schools and a University College Of Agriculture, Environment and Science (UCAES) situated at Bunso, an initiative led by the Okyenhene.
He again add that Okyeman currently has no worrying chieftancy cases as Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has been a father for all in resolving cases without fear or favour.
The 25th anniversary is under the theme: “Sustainable Leadership And Service To Humanity” and it is expected to be Climaxed in December this year.
The event was chaired by the Okyenhene Nana Ama Dokua.
