The Parliamentary Candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, Michael Okyere Baafi failed to secure the 70,000 valid votes target set ahead of the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The New Juaben South Constituency had a total voter population of 92,369 making it the largest in the Eastern Region.
The NPP was hopeful that securing at least 70,000 votes in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections will spur the party into victory in the region.
However, in the Presidential election, President Akufo Addo had 45,070 as against 22,884 garnered by John Dramani Mahama. Whereas in the Parliamentary election Michael Okyere Baafi who stood on the ticket of the NPP had 47,862 while Dr. Martin Otu Ofei of the NDC polled
20,164.Madam Adwoa Petra of GUM also had 464.
In 2016, Nana Akufo Addo polled 40,758 votes representing 66.06% while John Dramani Mahama of the NDC had 20,156 votes representing 32.67%.
In the Parliamentary election, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah of the NPP had 40,446 votes which represented 66.26% while the NDC Candidate Ransford Owusu Boakye had 19,918 votes which represented 32.63%.
