The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Hon. Micheal Okyere Baafi has announced an ambitious list of development projects set for 2026, many of which he says will be funded through his personal resources in addition to support from the municipal assembly.
The MP has outlined a series of major interventions scheduled for implementation this year, stressing that the first phase of projects will be financed through a combination of his own funds and contributions from the assembly.
According to him, the initiative will begin with the renovation of recreational facilities across the constituency. He revealed that he previously constructed an astroturf before his party left power, noting that although the facility belongs to the government, it was entirely his personal initiative.
He added that all parks developed under his watch before his party exited power will be fully upgraded.
“I will replace the roofing sheets on all the basic school buildings located around the astroturf facilities and repaint them to improve their condition,” he said.
The MP further disclosed plans to construct standard turfs for five basic schools or possibly all basic schools in Koforidua to encourage sports development among young learners.
Another major project will focus on transforming the Koforidua cemetery. He confirmed discussions with the chief and other traditional leaders aimed at redesigning the cemetery into a modern, well-structured facility.
He also highlighted a social intervention project targeted at women engaged in palm kernel oil production. He said he had consulted two influential friends to assist in constructing a new workspace to shield these women from harsh weather conditions.
The proposed facility will include a washroom, bathroom and a daycare centre to be placed under the supervision of the Ghana Education Service, ensuring that the children receive proper care while their mothers work comfortably.
In the education sector, the MP announced the construction of new classroom blocks and the installation of lighting systems for the Ada Kyeremanteng Basic School to enhance the learning environment.
He also emphasized a strong focus on healthcare delivery, stating that it remains a top priority this year. Two major health projects are already underway: the near completion of the Nyame Kurom Polyclinic and the ongoing construction of a health facility at Kwasi Akorli aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services.
“These are the major projects we will be doing this year, and these are the ones I am committing my own money to,” he concluded.
