Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, has partly attributed recent power outages to rampant thefts of transformers of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
The Chief expressed concern over the rampant vandalism of electricity transformers, with coils being stolen by unscrupulous individuals.
He emphasized that these criminal activities lead to power outages in various areas.
Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III issued a stern warning to those involved in the theft of transformers, urging them to cease their illegal activities stating that Nananom will not accept any plea to intervene for their pardonpardon when arrested.
“We Nananom [Chiefs] don’t engage in politics what I am about to say some say I am doing politics but it something I have seen and heard. You all know for sometime now we are experiencing power outages what we call “dumsor”.But not all the power outages are dumsor, some are actually caused by transformer thefts by unscrupulous people. So I beg, those engaging in transformer theft should desist” Said Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III.
He said this when addressing members of the Church of Pentecost at the forecourt of his palace released to host their Easter convention.
Many communities nationwide have been experiencing interruptions in electricity supply in the past weeks, prompting citizens to express their dissatisfaction with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)
Calls demanding a load shedding timetable has been disregarded .
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had erlier said the periodic power outages also during peak period 7pm-11pm may result from blown fuses and conductors of transformers.
In a statement, ECG explained that six hundred and thirty (630) distribution transformers within communities across their operational areas have been identified to be full to capacity due to increased demand.
Subsequently ECG, blamed GRIDCo for the power outages due to shortfall in supply to its bulk distribution points.
Meanwhile ,the Minister for Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has reassured the public of putting in place measures to fix the recent power supply disruption across the country.
