Notorious robbery gang terrorizing residents in Afram Plains on Friday, August 13, 2021, attacked passengers onboard a Sprinter Bus from Nkawkaw en route to Donkorkrom in Afram Plains North District in the Eastern Region.
A female passenger sustained gunshot wounds during the robbery which occurred at the Agyata stretch of Ekye Amanfrom to Maame Krobo road.
“We saw them ahead of us. The driver wanted to pass by with speed just like the cars before we did but we realized that, because the vehicles before us refused to stop, the arm robbers had blocked the road with two motorbikes and started firing arms in the air when they saw us approaching. The driver had no option than to stop for us all to alight” they said.
“They were four in number. Two were with cutlasses, one with a pistol and another with a bigger gun. Some were in face masks whiles others only had nose masks on. We couldn’t make them out because it was a bit late” A victim said.
The woman who suffered a gunshot injury was rushed to the Maame Krobo Clinic where she received some injections before being referred to the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom.
The Afram Plains area has been battling with robbery menace for about two decades now with no end in sight.
Many have lost their lives, while others injured. A lot of commuters have also lot huge amount to the robbers who mostly target traders and mourners.
The local Police are under resources and lack the needed personnel strength to deal with the menace.
