Unknown gunmen attacked the residence of Gburimani Chief who declared support for Bawumia and rained curses on National Democratic Congress (NDC) voters.
Unidentified individuals brandishing guns and cutlasses on Wednesday evening attacked the residence of the Chief of Gburmani at Gurugu in Tamale in the Northern Region.
The armed men numbering about eight left one person injured.
A visit on Thursday by JoyNews found the victim only identified as Mashud had since been treated and discharged.
In an interview, he said the armed men had information that the Chief was attending a Dagbon Traditional Council meeting in Yendi and had come to attack him.
According to him, a confrontation ensued when he attempted to question their identity and mission.
“One of them hit my head with a cutlass. They already knew the Chief was going to Yendi for a meeting. They thought the Chief had returned to pass the night here, “Mashud claimed.
The incident comes as tension has heightened since Monday at Gburmani in Tolon, following a political statement by the Chief of the community, Naa Mohammed Abdulai.
The Chief at a rally held at his palace by the Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Candidate of the ruling party, Habib Iddrisu, declared his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP, whilst evoking the spirits of the land to deal with any person who would cast their vote for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, and its candidates.
The Chief accused the past NDC administrations of deliberately neglecting the community.
