A total of 401 “men of all ranks” have been deployed for the fourth phase of Operation Halt II according to the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a press release signed by the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, it stated that the fourth phase of Operation Halt II, which has already commenced is “aimed at removing all persons and logistics involved in mining from water bodies”.
“The new phase of the operation focuses on the Ankobra River and its tributaries. The operation is being undertaken by four hundred and one men of all ranks”.
This follows the 3rd phase of the operations during which a total number of 49 excavators, 228 Changfans and 87 water pumping machines among other mining equipment were destroyed.
The public is, therefore, “advised to stay away from mining bodies to avoid any action by the forces”.
