Minority leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo -;Markin has acknowledged bitterly that the painful thing to happen to every politician is being in opposition.
Hon. Afenyo emphasized that the party needs unity, discipline, and sacrifice to win power and serve Ghana. “Power doesn’t come through division, it comes through unity, sacrifice, and discipline,” he said.
“Opposition is painful, saying “good friends don’t pick up calls, they ignore us and find new friends”. He made this statement at the NPP Presidential Peace Pact on January 22, 2026.
In order to achieve long-term success, he encouraged members to rise above rage, insults, and transient emotions.
He emphasized that while political competition is beneficial to democracy, the maturity of the party is demonstrated by how it is handled.
The goal of the peace agreement is to guarantee that the NPP would continue to be powerful, cohesive, and trustworthy in the eyes of Ghanaians following the elections, not to win on January 31.
