The Ghana Free Zones Authority marked its 3rd Annual Investment meeting at the Accra Marriott Hotel.
The much-anticipated event saw the coming together of government officials, government agencies, key investors, and free zone enterprises.
Speaking at the event, Amb Mike Oquaye Jnr Chief Executive Officer of the GFZA stated in his welcome address that the Authority’s role was not only to regulate but also to facilitate business investments in Ghana and maximize returns.
He stated that this could be accomplished through collaboration among all government agencies as well as the private sector while capitalizing on the opportunities available in the AfCFTA market.
Amb. Mike Oquaye also highlighted the advantages of the special economic zones. The creation of the green SEZs, he noted, is intended to further drive foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country.
The keynote speaker of the event, Hon. Alan Kyeremanten, Minister of Trade and Industry, in his remarks, alluded to the fact that the GFZA presents opportunities for investors.
He stated that now is the time to promote exports as the country works toward improving its Forex issues.
Apart from job creation and technology transfer, he noted that the free zone regime helps strengthen the country’s economic fiber.
He also stated that the free zones are actively playing a role in export-led industrial growth, which is an essential way to move the nation forward.
He further explained that the AfCFTA National Coordination Office is working hard to ensure that Ghanaian products are exported smoothly.
The Presidential Adviser on Media and Strategic Communication, Madam Oboshie Sai Cofie was the special guest of honor for the 3rd Annual Investment Week.
She indicated the government was implementing a National Export Development Strategy (NEDS) which is designed to propel the country in the shortest possible time.
This she said is important to break the cycle of being a raw material-producing and exporting economy.
In attendance at the event was the Deputy CEO in charge of Finance and Administration of GFZA, Mrs. Kate Abbeo, CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Mr. Yaw Amoateng Afriyie is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, National Coordinator of AFcFTA Dr. Fared Arthur, Secretary of the Association of Freezone Enterprises, Ms. Amanda Dajekpo, and Head of Freezones at the Customs Division, Mrs. Matilda Ameyaw Dadzie.
