The Eastern Regional chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr Godwin Awoonor has said the strike declared by three teacher Unions on 4th November 2022 will continue until government listen to their plea.
According to him, despite orders from the National Labour Union for them to return to the classroom, the teachers will remain at home until government change the new Director General for the Ghana Education Service.
Speaking at Golden Child Complex School’s maiden career day celebration in Asamankese, Mr Godwin Awoonor said they are ready to face the government in court if they decide legal action.
He said, ” I have five kids but non of them are willing to become a teacher due to condition of service and matters arising from the teaching profession”.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ordered the three teacher unions to immediately call off their strike and continue negotiations with the government.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations referred the impasse between them and the striking unions to the NLC due to the refusal of the Teacher Unions to call off their strike.
The unions said Dr Nkansah, the new Director appointed by the President was a banker and not a professional teacher, hence their call for his removal.
The Unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers, the National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana.
The strike has hampered academic work at pre-tertiary institutions.
