The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has stated categorically that the 20% increment in transport fares will remain as it is until their talks with the ministry are done this week.
According to the transport union, it has become very necessary for the union to increase their fares due to a hike in petroleum prices.
Speaking in an interview with an Accra based radio station, the General Secretary of GPRTU, Godfred Abulbire, said the outcome of the negotiations would determine the increase in transport fares.
In addition, both commercial and private drivers, as well as other stakeholders have urged the government to scrap some taxes on fuel to cushion consumers.
“It will remain as it is until our talks with the ministry is done. We would have to go through the same process of sending a letter, and then go on to the round table discussion, then we would consider how to help cushion our members better,” he stated.
