More than 50 security forces have been killed and dozens wounded during intense fighting with jihadists in northern Burkina Faso.
Among the dead were seventeen soldiers and volunteer fighters assisting the military.
According to the army, the killings took place in Koumbri commune in Yatenga province.
Several jihadist militants were also killed as part of an operation to try to push them back from Koumbri so that displaced people could return.
