The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams has sentenced a 31-year-old palm wine tapper to 60 days imprisonment in hard labor for possessing firearms without authority.
Charles Norvor, the accused, also known as Joe pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his plea.
According to Chief inspector Samuel Appietu Appiah, the complainant is a police officer in Asuom and the accused also resides in the same Town.
He said in recent times, there had been an increase in criminalities, specifical robbery in Asuom and other communities due to the possession of arms and ammunition by unauthorized persons.
He said on 5/08/2021, a robbery Case was Recorded in Asuom and led to the death of one person while other people lost their properties.
The Police, therefore, intensified investigation in Asuom and other communities, and on 24/08/2021 at about 4:00pm, police in Asuom had Information from Amankwakrom the accused person have a single barrel gun in his possession.
The police went to the house of the accused and retrieved the said gun from him and upon Interrogation, the accused admitted owner of the gun and said he got it from his grandfather but could not produce any document and license.
After investigation, the accused was charged and arraigned before court for prosecution.
