Some parents and residents of Akyem Kukurantumi and its environed have sympathized with the Proprietor and management of Bright Senior High School over recent unhealthy events that have characterized the ongoing WASSCE.
Speaking to the media, some parents indicated that the school has been very pivotal in the educational system in the district and the entire Okyenman as a whole.
In as much as condemning the alleged attack on WAEC officials, parents were of the view the matter has not been properly well managed by authorities and other stakeholders, considering the role the school has played over the past years as far as education is concerned across the country.
“There is no way we are going to support what the children did but we are also not happy how the matter is been handled without considering the future of these young ones. The Bright school has trained lots of students who are now in the various tertiary institutions with some gainfully employed after school so where from all these allegations from” some residents stressed.
Some were also of the view earlier statement from the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council to close down the school is unfortunate as they were expecting the traditional head to intervene in the matter and help resolve the issue rather than issuing the communiqué.
“We are satisfied with the performance of the school so we won’t sit down for it to be destroyed.
Meanwhile, In a media release issued by the school, both the director and the teachers were not present during the chaos.
Bryt Fm understands that none of their teachers were allowed to partake in the invigilation of the Social Studies examination on August 6, 2020 due to that, teachers, who doubled as invigilators, had gone home after WAEC decided to change them.
In a video cited by Bryt FM indicate that private security men posted to the examination center “prevented the principal from entering” even at the time he attempted to visit the center to restore calm, hence the principal was not around when the incident was going.
The confusion is said to have broken out when a student reportedly retaliated a slap by an invigilator who claimed the boy was cheating. Another student claimed her answer sheet was torn apart over a similar suspicion.
The head of Communication at Bright Senior High School, Dr. Isaac Asare commented on video footage in which the principal is seen storming out of the exam center, he said, the scene was filmed after the examination when Mr. Amponsah had gone to find out what had happened.
“The president was not allowed by the security men at the main entrance to enter the examination center, so how can he instigate the students to do such an awful acts PRO asked?
“Again, the Director could not have asked the students to stop writing because the exam was over anyway,” he said.
Most people Bryt FM spokes to in and outside the school and were witnesses to what went on that fateful day asked so many questions as to why twenty (20) security personnel including BNI at the centre.
Where in the second video was the directior instigating the students to stop writing their final exams.
According to information gathered and confirmed by New Tafo Akyem District Police Command, the director of the school, Bright Amponsah, was at the Police station when the officials from WAEC and Daily Graphic reporter was attacked.
