June 16, 2025 – Parliament’s Appointments Committee has commenced a three-day vetting exercise to screen seven Justices nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for elevation to the Supreme Court.
The exercise, which began this morning, Monday, 16 June 2025, is in fulfilment of Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the President to appoint Justices of the Supreme Court in consultation with the Council of State and subject to parliamentary approval.
The nominees—all serving Justices of the Court of Appeal—are:
- Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
- Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
- Justice Philip Bright Mensah
- Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
- Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
The vetting, scheduled to run through Wednesday, 18 June 2025, will assess the legal knowledge, professional conduct, and ethical standards of the nominees.
