Chief whip for the National Democratic Congress Members of Parliament who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has revealed that Leadership of the house is yet appointed Leaders for Committees in Parliament.
According to him, the speaker together with Leaders from the NPP and NDC Members of Parliament will meet before 15th January to amend the standing orders of Parliament before the appointment.
In an interview with Joy FM, the Asawase MP, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka said since the NPP and NDC have an equal number of Members of Parliament, some committee leadership positions will be shared while others key ones will go to the Party in Power.
Former Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo, Alban Sumana Bagbin has been sworn-in as Speaker of Parliament of the Eighth Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Joe Osei Wusu has been elected as the 1st Deputy Speaker of the eighth Parliament, while both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) by consensus picked the Member of Parliament-elect for the Fomena constituency, Amoako Andrew Asiamah as the 2nd Deputy Speaker.
The NDC nominated Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, MP for Nadowli, for the position of Speaker of Parliament of the 8th Parliament.
For the avoidance of doubt, the following are the leaders of the NDC MPs in the 8th Parliament:
(i) Hon. Haruna Idrissu -NDC MPs Leader
(ii) Hon. James Klutse Avedzi – Deputy NDC MPs Leader
(iii) Hon. Muntaka Mubarak – Chief Whip
(iv) Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim – First Deputy Whip
(v) Hon. Comfort Doyoe Ghansah – Second Deputy Whip.
On the NPP side, it has also decided to maintain Suame MP, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Majority Leader.
Sarah Adwoa Safo, the lawmaker for Dome Kwabenya constituency, and Alex Afenyo-Markin of the Efutu Constituency will serve as deputies to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
The Chief Whip slot has been reserved for the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh.
Dompreh’s deputies will be the Tolon MP, Habib Iddrisu, and the Ayawaso West-Wuogon MP, Lydia Alhassan.
