The Parliamentary Service has taken a significant step toward strengthening climate governance through a new partnership with the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES).
The collaboration was formalised on Tuesday morning with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing Parliament’s capacity in climate-related legislation, oversight, and budgeting.

Speaking at the event, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in equipping lawmakers with the technical expertise needed to effectively address climate change and its growing impacts.

He noted that the agreement would support Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff with the knowledge and resources required to develop sound climate policies, strengthen oversight, and ensure that national budgeting processes adequately reflect climate priorities.
The partnership is expected to provide technical support, capacity-building programmes, and expert guidance to help Parliament play a more effective role in shaping Ghana’s climate governance framework.
