A medical Liquid Oxygen Cylinder explosion scare on Monday September 25, 2023 around 9:00pm triggered fear and panic among patients on admission and Nurses at the surgical ward of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
Some of the patients at the ward were seen running away from their hospital beds after a noisy sound of gas leakage when the oxygen cylinder was being moved by a private security personnel to another room.
Some of the patients were seen holding their intravenous infusion bags with tubes hanging on them running for safety.
Nurses and other relatives caring for their sick at the ward also started running helter skelter.
Fortunately, no explosion occured as the leaking noise of the cylinder ceased .
According to an eyewitness ” the security officer said he was testing something on the cylinder hence the scary noise”.
The fear of patients has been heightened after a security man was killed after a similar medical liquid oxygen cylinder explosion at the Eastern Regional hospital in Koforidua.
The victim was assisting offloading of the medical liquid oxygen cylinder at the Oxygen unit of the hospital at about 9:30pm on Thursday 21st September 2023 when one of the Oxygen crushed on the ground and exploded fatally injuring the security man.
He sustained injury in the face, the upper arm was reportedly broken while the abdomen wounded .
He was rushed to the Intensive care unit but did not survive.
