The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly has organized a Basic Schools Quiz Competition as part of activities marking Ghana’s Independence Day of Ghana celebration, aimed at strengthening the knowledge and intellectual abilities of young learners in the municipality.
The competition, held under the national theme “Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope,” brought together four basic schools in a keenly contested academic challenge. The participating schools were Trinity Presby Model School, Pentecost Preparatory School, Nana Kwaku Boateng (B) Basic School, and Apimpoa Islamic Basic School.

After several rounds of questions covering various academic areas—particularly Ghana’s history and independence struggle—Pentecost Preparatory School emerged as the overall winner with 65 points. Trinity Presby Model School placed second with 54 points, followed by Nana Kwaku Boateng (B) Basic School with 34 points, while Apimpoa Islamic Basic School finished in fourth place with 26 points.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South, Ransford Owusu Boakye, explained that the quiz competition was designed to test the knowledge and critical thinking abilities of pupils while encouraging academic excellence among basic schools in the municipality.

He noted that the Municipal Assembly continues to implement several interventions aimed at improving the standard of education in New Juaben South, adding that such academic programmes help motivate students to develop interest in learning and national history.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Ivy Asantewa Owusu, commended the participating pupils for their impressive performance and enthusiasm throughout the competition.

Dr. Owusu explained that most of the questions were centered on Ghana’s history, independence struggle, and national development, which she said is important in helping young learners understand the country’s heritage and civic responsibilities.
She also praised teachers from the participating schools for adequately preparing and guiding the students for the competition, noting that their dedication played a significant role in the success of the event.
The quiz competition formed part of a series of educational and civic activities organized in the municipality to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary, while encouraging students to appreciate the nation’s history and contribute meaningfully to its future development.
