The West Akim Municipal Assembly through the department of Social Welfare has donated items and cash to 37 Persons Living with Disabilities in the Municipality.
The items includes eleven Chest Freezers, Six Syinix Swallow Makers (fufu Machine), one laptop, seven Popcorn machines, Sawing machine and linen, undisclosed cash amount to ten people who requested for it to expend business and other items.
The Director for Social Welfare Department in West Akim, Mr. Isaac Sreku Obuobi in an interview said the donations were done base on request by the Beneficiaries.
He announced that the department will be monitoring the Beneficiaries to ensure that they use the items to do business that will generate funds to cater for themselves.
Addressing the Beneficiaries in a brief ceremony, Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Seth Oduro Boadu said since 2017, the government has stopped giving cash only to persons with disabilities because the government want them to do small business to generate funds for themselves.
He urged the Beneficiaries to use the items accordingly to encourage the government to continue it support for persons with Disability.
The MCE called on Persons with Disability to pray for peaceful Polls and try to exercise their franchise to elect Member of Parliament and President on 7th December.
Some of the Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Assembly, Social Welfare Department and the Central government for their support for the past seven years and pledged to vote for the New Patriotic Party.
