At the launch of the Petroleum Commission’s 2023 Local Content Conference at the Shippers’ House earlier today, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Energy minister indicated that the chosen theme for this year’s Local Content Conference– “Ten (10) years of local content in Ghana’s Upstream Petroleum Industry: Achievements, challenges and prospects” is apt because it seeks to deepen the advocacy for Local Content Development within two key dimensions – implementation challenges and achievements.
Indeed, 10 years post the coming into force of a law like L.I. 2204 provides the justification for a look back at where we started from in relation to where we are at present with upstream petroleum local content; and where we desire to take it to.
The minister urged the regulator, the Petroleum Commission to have the spine to ensure a consolidated legal and regulatory oversight over the industry as that is key to ensure a deepened Ghanaian content and participation.
“I am hopeful that this years’ conference to be held from November 21-24, 2023 in Takoradi, will once again provide the platform for industry players to discuss the prospects of Ghanaian content development, especially in the context of the energy transition conversation and how we can make the future more exciting for the industry” he added.
