The Christ King Catholic Church in Accra has held a mass service to mark the farewell of Reverend Father Andrew Campbell, outgoing Parish Priest, after serving for 12 years, and 50 years of missionary work in Ghana.
Born in 1946, Fr. Campbell volunteered to come to Ghana as a Missionary Priest and arrived in Ghana in 1971. Since then, he has worked in various roles in his quest to serve humanity, including opening a Middle School, Sacred Heart Parish, in 1978, and founding Sacred Heart Vocational Institute for poor and needy students in Accra Central in 1980. Over 2000 needy students have passed through the school since its inception.
His work with cured lepers and street children over the years has gained him local and international recognition and helped to highlight their sorry plight.
In November 2020, the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, has conferred an Honorary Doctorate on Rev. Father Andrew Campbell.
Rev. Father Campbell, in his farewell address, thanked the parishioners for their love and support in ensuring a successful tenure.
He urged them to extend the same support and cooperation to the incoming parish priest and continue the outreach programs to win more souls for Christ.
The foundation stone of the Christ the King Catholic Church was laid on May 22, 1951, by Rev. Father Charles Erb.
