The Head of Finance of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Francis Andah, expressed that PIAC remains committed to holding duty bearers accountable in the country.
The Head of Finance explained they will keep informing Ghanaians about the country’s oil revenue as part of their mandate.
“The responsibility of PIAC is to ensure that the oil revenue, which we all consider a blessing, is used to create jobs and improve the lives of Ghanaians,” Mr. Andah told Kwahudeyie Nana Yaw Obeng on Bryt Adekyee Musem Morning Show.
Mr. Andah stated that PIAC is a body established by law to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of petroleum revenues, adding that the committee monitors how oil revenue is received, managed, and spent, and informs citizens about how the resources are used each year.
He noted that Ghana discovered oil in 2006, and by 2010, production had begun. In 2011, in response to growing public concern over the management of oil resources, the government passed the Petroleum Revenue Management Act.
“It’s not a job for government alone; citizens must be involved in the process, and that is why PIAC was formed—to provide transparency and serve as a watchdog on behalf of the people,” he said.
