The recently released 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) report has unveiled startling statistics on marital relationships in Ghana.
It reveals that 553,065 individuals in the country have experienced marital dissolution, while 405,090 have undergone separation.
Breaking down the figures, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) reports that out of the 553,065 divorced individuals, 362,233 are females, constituting 65.5%, while the remaining 190,832 are males, representing 34.5%.
Similarly, in the case of separation, the majority are females, accounting for 252,079 persons, with 153,011 males in the remaining share.
The report sheds light on the overall marital landscape in Ghana, indicating that out of the total 8,366,466 persons married, a significant majority, 6,748,622 individuals, have not registered their marriages. Only 1,617,844 marriages are officially registered.
