The Asamankese Government Hospital of the Eastern Region recorded a total of 31 Pneumonia related deaths in 2020 as 36 others also die of cardiovascular accident (CVA) in the year.
In 2019 at the same Hospital, Pneumonia was number one among top ten causes of death and 19 people died, compared to 2018 which was number three with 14 deaths.
Pneumonia is an infection in one or both lungs. Bacteria, viruses, and fungi cause it. The infection causes inflammation in the air sacs in your lungs, which are called alveoli. The alveoli fill with fluid or pus, making it difficult to breathe.
A report from the Hospital indicates that 707 people were diagnosed in 2020.
The Hospital`s female ward recorded 66 deaths, male ward recorded 55, casualty 20,kids ward 6 and one maternal death.
The number of Hospital death recoded in 2020 was 157, against 166 and 140 in 2019 and 2018 respectively.
Other causes of death in the Hospital in the year 2020 were sepsis, chronic liver disease, respiratory failure and cerebral toxoplasmosis.
The rest are Septiceamia, Retroviral infection, Hypetension, Enephalopathy and other diseases.
