The Akyem Asuom District Police Commander DSP Stephen Abanga together with his men have arrested about nine(9) suspected criminals and retrieved large quantities of marijuana and other drugs in a special swoop conducted in Akyem Asuom Township in Kwaebibirim District in the Eastern region.
The suspects arrested are Kate Otiwaa, age 43, Asimah Emmanuel, 42, Marfo Peprah, 39, Paul Ankomah, 34, Asiedu Daniel, 42, Kofi Nyarko, 45, Kwarteng Michael, 21, Kwadwo Kyei alias Rasta, 46 and Samuel Amuzu, 32.
According to the Police, the suspects were arrested in three different places in Asuom Township.
Police first arrested suspects Kate Otiwaa and Asimah Emmanuel together with some quantities and wrapped plant substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two boxes of Sparkling Kingsize rolling papers, two bottles, and two gallons of drink mixed with plant substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
On the second swoop, suspects Marfo Peprah, Paul Ankomah, Asiedu Daniel, Kofi Nyarko, Kwarteng Michael, Kwadwo Kyei alias Rasta were arrested together with one parcel of plant substance suspected to be Indian hemp, one pack of Rothmans cigarette which contained 5 pieces of cigarette and 3 wrapped plant substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
On the third swoop, suspect Samuel Amuzu was arrested together with two polythene bags containing plant substances suspected to be Indian hemp and 5 packs of Cicada Rolling papers. However, a search conducted in the house of Suspect Asimah Emmanuel revealed three sacks of plant substances suspected to be Indian hemp, six yellow parcels containing plant substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and three boxes of tramadol.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Commander DSP Ebenezer Tetteh’s aid the suspects have been detained in cells and exhibits retained as they are being processed to court.
The action of the Police follows series of armed robbery attacks in the Community creating insecurity.
Amos Dadebor alias Congo, 80, was shot dead during an armed robbery attack on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at about 3:10am in the house of a popular food vendor opposite the Asuom Clinic.
The food vendor Gladys Senagbe told Police that, she heard her dogs barking at about 2:30am then suddenly heard the victim who was lying on a mattress on the corridor ordered the person to stop but the robber shot him at close range killing him instantly.
On September 1, 2021, one-man Ak47 rifle-wielding notorious armed robber attacked an Okyeman guest house in the community at about 8:30pm and made away with a huge amount of money.
The local Police believe the suspects arrested may have a link to the robbery activities in the area.
