The Western North Regional Police Command has impounded a Daewood Cargo truck with registration number AS 6408-20 fully loaded with assorted Pharmaceutical Products including not for sale tuberculosis drugs en route from Ghana to Ivory Coast.
The Western North Regional Police PRO, ASP Michael Nkekesi, Police in Juaboso on Monday, October 18, 2021, upon their routine patrols, intercepted the said truck loaded with assorted drugs at a police and immigration checkpoint at Jato in the Sefwi Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from the Western North Regional Police Headquarters, Asp Michael Nkekesi, Western North said, the Police are suspecting the products were being smuggled to our neighboring country Ivory Coast.
According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the truck was heading through Sefwi Akaatiso in the Bia West District which shares a direct boundary with Ivory coast “so those escorting the drugs will make the transit and smuggle it through the borders of Sefwi Akaatiso. Some of these smuggled drugs arrested includes, tuberculosis treatment drugs with embossment not for sale”
The suspects are in Police custody.
