The Ghana Police Service is investigating the death of Lois Abena Korateng, a 24-year-old KNUST woman found unconscious in a hotel swimming pool in Takoradi. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police immediately began investigating, visiting both the hotel and the hospital. An inspection of her body revealed no signs of assault.
An autopsy conducted by a Pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, in the presence of the deceased’s family, determined the cause of death as asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning.
Following complaints from the family about inadequate police communication, the Inspector-General of Police personally apologized on July 10, 2024, and assured them that the investigation is ongoing.
He also promised a thorough update at the family’s convenience.
The police have pledged to maintain close communication with the family throughout the investigation.
