DCE for Afram Plains South, Hon. George Ofori has suggested that Ghana police should change their mode of operation for arresting criminals and armed robbers.
He said this about his recent attack where he narrowly escaped gunshots from armed robbers who attacked him on his way out.
“When you look at where the billets landed and where I was sitting in the car, it was just a close miss and I could have easily died from the shot if it had hit me”, he said.
According to him, robbery has been rampant in Ekye Amanfrom, and all methods put in place to curb it have proved futile.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM, he revealed that, two years ago a striking force was sent to the community to check criminal activities and they were able to arrest about ten hard criminals who were found with mobile phones and other items which have been stolen by them.
He added that after their arrest there was no case of robbery for a year in the community.
“The striking force spent two weeks in the community and during that time they arrested all these hard criminals which made the place very safe for an entire year “
However, these criminals, despite all the evidence that they deserve to be arrested and prosecuted were released for no reason.
This, according to him, has increased the robbery attacks because these released criminals are wicked and more dangerous.
“The reason why robberies are becoming even more dangerous is that when someone is arrested and they are later released, they come back even more dangerous because they know after all they won’t be punished for their actions”, he stressed.
During his interview, he suggested that the police should desist from using sirens and police cars in arresting criminals.
He added that the siren they use is an escape plan for the criminals because immediately they hear it they look for ways to ran away.
“I think if the police can change their operation mode it will help, the siren makes a lot of o noise which helps them to escape and skid when they see the police cars.”
