Residents living at new sites in the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua are calling on the Police Command to increase police visibility in such areas.
Their calls comes at the back of recent murder of a mother of three children at Oyoko in the New Juaben north municipality over the weekend and many other crimes that have been experienced last year.
According to some residents, police visibility is not extended to interior areas in the capital especially the new sites, a recipe for the many criminal acts been experienced.
“I don’t remember the day I saw police officers in this area. Is it just because we are staying a bit far from town or what? Since there is a road to these places, we suggest the police extend its patrol to every corner to protect us all”.
“You see police patrolling in town at night but we are yet to see them here as well. Or the police only guide those in town?” some residents complained.
Others also called on their fellow colleagues to form vigilante groups that would assist the police in providing security for people living in such areas where criminals take advantage to harass their victims.
Koforidua over the past year has experienced some murder cases as well as other criminal incidents with most of the happenings taking place at new sites.
A driver, Hagan Abeiku, killed his wife over the weekend at their premises at a new site at Oyoko after a little misunderstanding broke out before them.
The situation has brought fear and panic among residents with many of them appealing for beef up in terms of police visibility.
