The People’s National Congress (PNC), the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), and the National Democratic Party (NDP) could not fill Parliamentary Candidates to contest in 32 out of 33 Constituencies in the Eastern Region.
The only candidate who filed in the name of PNC is contesting in Akuapem North Constituency while the NDP Candidate is contesting in Afram Plains North. The sole PPP Candidate also filed to contest in Fanteakwa North
According to a Provisional list by the Electoral Commission, a total of ninety-three (93) Parliamentary Candidates filed their nomination forms to contest the Parliamentary election in thirty-three (33) Constituencies in the Eastern Region.
Out of the number, 81 are males while 12 are females.
While the two major Political Parties -ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, and the Opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, have Candidates contesting in all 33 Constituencies in the region, only 11 filed in the ticket of Ghana Union Movement (GUM), the Liberal Party of Ghana(LPG), and the Conventions Peoples Party(CPP) had 3 Candidates filed in their tickets each.
Seven (7) of the candidates according to the provisional data obtained from the Eastern Regional Office of the Electoral Commission are contesting as Independent candidates.
The Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Faith Amedzake explained to mybrytfmonline.com that documents of the candidates who filed are being vetted to send to the Headquarters of the commission for final approval and balloting.
