In a heartfelt address during Ghana’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving in Accra, President John Dramani Mahama reminded the nation that occupying public office is a duty of service—not a license for personal gain.
Speaking before a diverse assembly of faith leaders, citizens, and government officials, President Mahama stressed that true leadership must be rooted in humility, responsibility, and unwavering ethics.
“Leadership is not about privilege or prestige,” he said. “It is about service. It is about bearing the weight of the people’s trust and delivering justice, compassion, and accountability to every citizen—especially those who are most vulnerable.”
President Mahama reaffirmed that no one, not even the head of state, is above the rule of law. “As president, I, too, must be answerable. The strength of our democracy depends on our ability to hold ourselves—and each other—to the highest standards.”
The annual interfaith gathering, themed “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity,” offered a moment of spiritual pause and national introspection. It brought together Ghanaians from all walks of life to seek divine guidance and rededicate themselves to values that promote justice, equity, and national progress.
As he concluded, President Mahama urged both public servants and private citizens to embrace a collective mission: building a Ghana that is not only prosperous but also principled.
“Let us move forward as one people, with courage, with faith, and with a commitment to the ideals that make our nation strong.”
