In a decisive step toward strengthening Ghana’s democracy, President John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a Constitution Review Committee. This move fulfills his promise to implement recommendations from past constitutional review processes and make necessary amendments to the 1992 Constitution.
The committee comprises a distinguished lineup of experts, including:
1.Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh – Chairman
2.Justice Sophia Adinyirah – Member
3.Prof. Kwame Karikari – Member
4.Mrs. Charlotte Osei – Member
5.Dr. Godwin Djokoto – Member
6.Ibrahim Tanko Amidu – Member
7.Dr. Esi Ansah – Member
8.Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya – Secretary
The committee is tasked with identifying gaps in previous constitutional review work, including the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
It will consult with key stakeholders and provide actionable recommendations to enhance democratic governance.
This initiative highlights President Mahama’s commitment to engaging highly qualified individuals in managing the review process, ensuring a credible and comprehensive approach to constitutional reform.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations for constitutional amendments within five months for government consideration.
