Three Ghana Air Force men who died in the August 6 military chopper crash have received posthumous promotions from President John Dramani Mahama in recognition of their “service and sacrifice to the nation.”
The statement was made by the president, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, at an ecumenical funeral service for the crash victims on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Independence Square.
Government representatives, the military high command, grieving families, and mourners from all throughout the nation attended the sorrowful service.
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala were the servicemen honored.
Squadron Leader Anala has been promoted to Wing Commander, Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu to Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Mensah to Flight Sergeant as part of the posthumous promotions.
They “died in the line of duty,” according to President Mahama, who called their passing “a great loss to the nation.”
In order to ensure that “their legacy of dedication and professionalism is remembered,” he reiterated the government’s commitment to helping the families they left behind.
